What is an ecosystem?

An ecosystem is a system involving the interactions between a community of living organisms in a particular area and its nonliving enviorment.

Our Ecosystem

Our ecosystem is the Tropical Rainforest. Tropical Rainforests can be found all over the world. Scientists have counted about 100-300 different species in one 2 1/2- acre.

Isn't that a lot?

The Real World

Here are some places you could visit.
This is in Central America. Most of this area has been taken down for cattle ranching and for sugar cane plantations.

Africa is the worlds second largest rainforest. In Africa they have many mangrove swamps and flooded forests.

Would you ever visit these places?

What you will find in the Tropical Rainforest

You may find things like waterfalls, a lot of animals, maybe people, and even very pretty flowers.
Wanna visit?

Second Producer

This is the second biggest producer in the tropical rainforest.  Flowers are everywhere and they help out so much.
Isn't this flower pretty?

Producer

The Hemlock trees are the biggest producers because they are about 150 feet high.
Do you think you would be able to climb this tree?

Mid-level Consumer

The Pacman frog has a mouth that is the size of their body. A female Pacman frog measures up to 15 cm or around 6 inches.
Could you imagine having a mouth the size of your body?

The Tropical Rainforest.

The Tropical Rainforest is mostly trees and animals. It is mostly warm year-round, with an average of 50-260 inches of rainfall yearly.
Would you be able to live here?

Top-level Predator

In the Tropical Rainforest they have many different top-level predators but the tiger is the most common.

Would you be able to do what they do?
